FAR MicroTag
Introducing the
Fine Art Registry™ Microtag

A new tag? Well, it's a different tag. A MICRO tag. The Microtag does NOT replace the regular FAR® tag. Both will be available and each will have its place and its purpose.

What is the Microtag?
It is about 1/16" in diameter (slightly under 2mm) and contains all the information and levels of security that the larger FAR tag has. The procedure for registering and tagging is the same.

FAR MicroTag Technology

The Microtag provides artists and collectors with the ability to covertly tag, track, trace, and securely identify fine art, jewelry, and literally any object of value. An excellent solution for objects that may be too small for our original tag. The Microtag can be applied to literally any object or any surface or substrate and they are an excellent accompaniment to our original tagging system. It's a simple and straightforward means of positive identification.

Why a different tag?
There are two reasons.
  1. For some objects the Microtag is more suitable. Perhaps because of size. Perhaps because the regular FAR tag would interfere with the appearance due to size and prominence. There are a number of reasons why one might want a tiny dot instead of the regular tag. There are certain paper objects such as rare manuscripts, books, photos and documents where a full size tag may not be desirable. The Microtag is perfect for these.
  2. You may want a more covert means of identification. If you are an artist tagging and registering a new painting, you want the tag to be prominent and visible. It adds value to the piece. However, if you are a collector with a small and valuable photo or a rare manuscript or a vase or other object that you want to tag, then the Microdot would probably work better. You have to really search for it to see it’s there. But it IS there. And if it comes to identifying a stolen or lost item as yours, you know where you put the Microtag and can find it and read the number on it and prove its yours.

Ultra high tech
Combined with the Fine Art Registry patented database and method of registration, the FAR Microtag is a superior technology incorporating a 2-D barcode which permits field checks and verification with hand held readers.

The technology that goes into the Microtag includes a sub-surface laser marking that writes information directly to an internal layer of the tagging material. Our Microtag is a covert marking, virtually invisible to the naked eye.

I want some! Where are they?
The Microtag is fully developed and in final stages of production. Availability will be announced. We are just taking care of the final details that will make it perfect.

How much does it cost?
The Microtag is a bit more expensive to produce than the regular FAR tag. Pricing is not yet set but will be announced as soon as it is. As with the regular tags, the price will be kept as low as possible to make sure it is as broadly available as possible.
