Pilchuck Glass Art School

Founded by world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, Pilchuck is the most comprehensive educational center in the world for artists to create with glass and has been a primary force in the evolution of glass as a means of artistic expression. The stimulating yet serene Pilchuck environment fosters creativity and collaboration in a pristine, wooded retreat, free from the distractions of day to day living. As such, it is closed to the public and, though it's name has achieved near mythic status in the art world, few outsiders have actually ever seen the campus.

Through Cork, the Fine Art Registry multimedia team was invited to visit Pilchuck this week, tour the facilities, listen in on Cork's class and spend time interviewing students and faculty. This rare opportunity was captured in photographs and on video and will be the subject of an upcoming video release.

Cork is teaching "Public Art: Illuminating the Process" giving students the skills to compete in the arena of public art, based on his decades of successful national and international public commissions, and with a focus on neon, one of Cork's specialty fields. He also exhibits his sculpture widely and is the author of Camille Fauré: Impossible Objects, a detailed account of the French glass enameling studio, which can be purchased in the FAR Store.

Cork can be seen in two Fine Art Registry DVD releases: Public Art: How to Win the Contract and Essential Perspectives on Contemporary Art, both also available in the FAR Store.
