Doctors Need to Mind Their Business
Open Letter To Artists (From An Art Critic) - Part 34
You would think that doctors would have enough to do today: diagnosing their patients, operating on them, doling out prescriptions, playing golf at the club and such. However, according to Joan Altabe, author of OPEN LETTER TO ARTISTS (From An Art Critic) - Part 34, for some in the honored profession it is not the case. Some have felt that it is their duty to venture into the Art Critic Forum, diagnosing the paintings and artwork of many of the masters.
It is difficult to believe that a professional from the field of medicine would have the audacity to proclaim some of our most renowned artists as having such maladies as cataracts, astigmatisms, and other dire conditions. Astounding, since these folks have been dead many years past. The author urges those in this area that are so inclined not to make rash judgments in reference to the health of these individuals, should brush up on their art history.
Joan refers in her article to a piece written in this year’s Archives of Ophthalmology wherein an astounding proclamation was made by an eye doctor. Some of the physicians have gone so far as to diagnose Caravaggio’s painting of The Sleeping Cupid, as using a model that had rheumatoid arthritis due to the lump in the wrist of the angel. What?
She sites many other examples of such pomposity that it borders on the ridiculous.
As you can already deduce, the author uses humor and common sense to show just how absurd some doctors have shown themselves to be. Joan Altabe is a contributing critic for www.fineartregistry.com. Some of her criticisms can be caustic, however, always done in a humorous and educational manner. Be sure to read all of The Art Critic’s series of articles at the Fine Art Registry™ website.
