What to Know Before (and after) You Buy
Setting sail on a large luxury cruise ship can be an exciting, exhilarating experience. However, take into consideration, that even though the atmosphere may seem festive, friendly and light-hearted, there may be dirty dealing afoot. There are many entertainment venues that are offered, and one that is touted with great frequency by the ship’s social director is the art auction. Take heed and make sure that you have full knowledge of what you are getting into. Many have been deceived.
The second in a series of investigative articles, this one entitled Art on the High Seas, Part 2: What to Know Before (and after) You Buy, authored by Anayat Durrani, details some more of the pitfalls that victims have encountered. Best of all, in this writing she delineates some hard and fast rules that cruise passengers should be aware of before they purchase any artwork. In the spirit of the moment, many feel the need to spend money to memorialize their vacation. There are those aboard who are there to prey on those unwary vacationers.
Anayat, with her valuable advice, tries to educate those who choose to attend these auctions BEFORE they find themselves in a circumstance that is difficult to extract themselves from. She includes in her writing a list of Do’s and Don’ts – advice from an art auctioneer with years of experience aboard cruise ships.
Ocean cruises are meant to be enjoyable and carefree. But it is of great concern when you part with your hard-earned money for something that can be purchased in most cases for far less on land. Learning that you have been duped can turn a lovely vacation into a bitter experience. I urge you to read this in depth investigative study of how cruise ship auctions operate.
