The Death of Socrates: Jacques Louis David
Jacques Louis David arose from a wealthy and well-connected family. He seemed always to escape serious problems and at the same time move into less prominent positions of power. He was political in nature and used art to push his views. At times he moved ahead and at others found himself imprisoned by the opposition party. While Robespierre was guillotined for his participation in Revolution and crimes against the state, David escaped execution because he did not feel well.
