Dali Fakes #7
COERCION USED TO FORCE RESPECTED ART MAGAZINE TO PUBLISH LIES
Setting the Record Straighter
Unfortunately, instead of "setting the record straight", Morris Shapiro in fact provides false and unsubstantiated information to The Artistʼs Magazine and its readers. It turns out that the article contains lies, twisted data and slanderous statements about eminent and respected individuals in the world of Salvador Dali authentication, far more eminent and respected than Morris Shapiro, Park West Gallery and their expert, Bernard Ewell. Rather than let these lies and unsubstantiated claims persist, we have decided to document them here with proof of their falsity.
And this deceit was perpetrated by Morris Shapiro, gallery director of Park West Gallery in his article sent to The Artistʼs Magazine under legal threat if it was not published, with the stated intention of "setting the record straight" with regard to my earlier article on an investigation into artwork sold by Park West.

Great FACTUALLY DOCUMENTED article.
I do wish when you state that there are other factual inconsistencies that they however also be listed.
Recently I was looking at Bernard Ewells own website.
I note that apparently when he went to Turin in 1998 (per the website, the best I can determine) to meet the Alberto's he got to see what was reported to be Dali's last pet Oselot, that Dali gave the Alberto's when he became to old to take care of it, not however noting that Dali died in 1989.
Ewell says this shows Dali's great fondness for the Albertos and appears to be thus part of his authentication, along with what experts say are fake documents and letters. Seeing an oselot is an art authentication technique? Since when?
Most stories of Dali and his pet Oselots are in the 1960s....
Oselots have a life expectancy of around ten years. It must have been a very old Oselot.
Ewell also makes much of his independence as an appraiser... and yet then talks about his good times with the Albertos, their visits with him in Arizona and etc. Thats not independence, thats freindship and again part of his authentication per his website is the Alberto's tales about all the time they spent with Dali ( and "Oh the stories").
Ironicaly the photos provided of Dali with the Albertos from Park West/Albertos are taken by one of the very Dali experts Ewell trashes, then misdated to apparantly lend crediability to fake letters.
Where are the numerous pictures of Dali in Turin at the Alberto's?
I know nothing about authticating artwork or Ewells self described forensic investgations... but I cant believe the stories told by those whose artwork is getting authenticated as being forensic evidence, as they have a finanicial self interest in the results. Nor can I imagine that Art Collectors/art publishers... the Albertos in this case get to appoint/decide who is a Dali expert... Obviously their self interest would only be to proclaim those who autheticate their art work as a Dali Expert! Again this is not independence and is of no value, IMHO... and yet its whats offered up as making Ewell a Dali Expert...
The picture of Ewell with a Dali dummy where he appears to be acting like he is having a conversation with a living Dali seems to be designed to mislead and perhaps says all that needs to be said about any real crediabilty or lack of. If its not to mislead, then whats its point?
I also note that Ewell talks about the great credibility, integrity and honesty of Albert Scagolinithat he has witnessed, but then will not stand by his business practices or the provided appraisels... How can one's honesty and integrity and their business practices be separated? How can an honest man with integrity tell people the art they purchased from him was worth $70K, when its worth is $5-$7K (or maybe nothing) or tell people they are buying art from him at 40%-80% less than on shore when in fact the price they pay is ten times more.
